New Delhi, Feb 4 (IANS)Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condoled the death of soldiers who were hit by an avalanche in Siachen Glacier in Jammu and Kashmir
“Demise of soldiers in Siachen is very tragic. I salute the brave soldiers who gave their lives to the nation. Condolences to their families,” he said.
Ten soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer (JCO), went missing on early Wednesday after an avalanche hit their patrol at 19,000 feet above the sea level in southern side of the Siachen Glacier, which was once the world’s highest battlefield, and with an extremely hostile climate.
A massive rescue operation has been on by the army and the air force to trace the missing personnel but an army official had said earlier on Thursday that the possibility of any survivors was “remote”.
