As July comes to a close, India is set to experience 9-10% excess rainfall for the month, resulting in a cumulative total of 2% above normal for the monsoon season. However, rainfall distribution remains uneven, with central and south India receiving ample rain, while northwest and eastern regions face significant deficits. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), 36% of India’s districts have reported deficient or ‘large deficient’ rains, notably affecting areas like Jharkhand, Bihar, Gangetic Bengal, and parts of Punjab and Haryana.
