Mumbai, Sep 23 (Inditop.com) Indian equities markets were trading on a fairly quiet note a little after Wednesday noon with a key index ruling 0.3 percent lower than its previous close.

At 12.23 p.m., the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened marginally higher at 16,905.5 points against Tuesday’s close at 16,886.43 points, was ruling 50.11 points or 0.3 percent lower at 16,835.8 points.

Around the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), too, was trading in the negative terrain at 5,005.8 points, down 0.29 percent.

Broader market indices were also ruling flat, with the BSE midcap index trading 0.1 percent lower and the BSE smallcap index moving down 0.21 percent.

The market breadth was negative, with 1,084 scrips advancing compared to 1,492 declining and 85 remaining unchanged.

Other important Asian markets were similarly in the red.

The Nikkei, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closed 73.26 points or 0.7 percent lower at 10,370.54 points.

At the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the benchmark SSE composite was ruling 1.86 percent down at 2,843.74 points.

The primary index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Hang Seng, was hovering at 21,563.76 points, down 137.38 points or 0.63 percent.
