The BJP has inducted former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren to counter JMM’s influence in Kolhan region. Champai faces the challenging task of weaning away tribal votes from JMM and help BJP win seats in the region. In the 2019 elections, the BJP could not win any of the 14 seats in Kolhan. In Lok Sabha elections also, the BJP’s performance in the reserved seats was not up to expectations.
