New Delhi, Sep 24 (Inditop.com) Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain Thursday launched a four-week drive asking Delhiites to ensure that the national capital stayed “clean and green” during the Durga Puja and Dussehra celebrations.
Sain announced that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is launching the “Special Clean and Green Delhi Drive” effective from Friday.
“It will be ensured that proper standard of sanitation, cleanliness, maintenance and horticulture is set by the field agencies with proper supervision at the ground level,” Sain said.
Sain said he has requested municipal councillors, chairmen of ward committees to co-operate and guide municipal staff engaged in various works during the drive.
Additional commissioners and deputy commissioners of all 12 MCD zones have also been roped in to ensure proper implementation.
“They shall inspect the areas under their charge in the morning and record their observation,” Sain said.
Officers of MCD’s environment management services (EMS) department have also been directed to ensure that road-side piles of silt and wastes are collected from market areas, commercial complexes, residential colonies, religious places and disposed of at sanitary landfill sites (SLFs) on an urgent basis.
A senior MCD official said: “All public conveniences shall be cleaned, washed and treated with disinfectants. Anti-fly measures shall also be taken. Special cleaning efforts will be made in slum areas as we have tied up with NGOs and residents. The public should be persuaded to have minimum use of polythene bags and its proper disposal, rather than throwing it on footpaths, central verges, in drains,” a senior MCD official said.
Under the drive, special attention would also be paid to removal of debris from congested areas of the walled city, and Sadar, Paharganj and Karol Bagh zones.
In addition, all road signs, marks of lanes, zebra crossing are being repainted, he said.
The officers of horticulture department have been asked to ensure that all public parks are cleaned of overgrown grass, garbage and necessary repairs are carried out on masonary structures.
“Special greening efforts shall be carried out at all municipal parks,” the official added.
The drive will also target food hygiene.
Roadside vends for food items have been asked to arrange dustbins at their shops for waste material, said the official, adding that “action against vendors selling cut-fruits, sugarcane juice and unlicensed mobile food vans shall be intensified.”
