Kabul, Sep 29 (Xinhua) A key Taliban commander was killed in Afghanistan’s Kunduz province by policemen, police said Tuesday.
“Policemen shot dead Taliban key commander Mullah Rashid in Kunduz province during an operation Monday evening,” said the province’s Inspector General of Police Abdul Razaq Yaqubi.
Rashid was on a motorbike along with his guard when he came under police attack and was killed on the spot, but his guard escaped, the police officer said.
The Taliban has yet to make any comment.
Kunduz, a relatively peaceful province in north Afghanistan until last year, has been the scene of growing Taliban-linked insurgency over the past several months.
