Patna, Sep 29(Inditop.com) In another boat mishap in Bihar, nine people returning from Durga Puja festivities were killed after their boat capsized in the Kosi river, an official said Tuesday.

The accident took place Monday night near Kusheswarsthan in Darbhanga, about 150 km from here. “Nine bodies, mostly women and children, have been recovered. Eight of the people, all male managed to swim to safety or were rescued but one man is still missing,” an official in the Darbhanga district magistrate’s office said.

The small boat meant for eight, was carrying more than double its capacity. The boat was carrying mainly women and children.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a compensation of Rs.150,000 to the families of the victims.

In another incident Monday night, at least 10 people were killed and over 40 were missing after a boat carrying over 60 people on their way back from Durga Puja festivities capsized in the Bagmati river in Khagaria district.

Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan expressed shock over both the incidents.
