The dust has settled after Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor apologised for his “cattle class” remark, saying he meant no disrespect to economy class travellers. It now emerges that National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan and Prime Minister’s principal secretary T.K.A. Nair had to do firefighting in their own discreet way to ensure that the controversy did not spiral out of control.
Both Narayanan and Nair belong to Kerala’s influential Nair community. The grapevine is that Kerala Nairs from Thiruvananthapuram made Tharoor an MP and the Delhi Nairs saved his job!
