Gurgaon, Oct 5 (Inditop.com) The country’s richest golf event, the $1.25 million Hero Honda Indian Open kicks off Tuesday at DLF Golf and Country Club with a unique India versus Rest of World Skills Challenge.
The entertaining contest will see India’s two top ranked players Gaganjeet Bhullar and Arjun Atwal take on former US Open winner, Michael Campbell and Daniel Chopra, a two-time winner on the US PGA Tour.
The contest will see both teams compete head to head in five different golf skills – Long Drive, Approach Shot, Long Putt, Pitch Shot and Sand Shot. Each of the four players will hit three shots and the best shot of each player will determine the standings.
The winner in each skill will receive 50 points, a second place will give 30 points, third 20 points and fourth 10 points. The cumulative score of each team in the five skills will determine the winning team.
Each player on the winning team will receive $3000 and the losing team will receive US$1000 each.
“Because the Skills Challenge takes place all in one compact area, it is the most spectator friendly format in golf. Add to that the instant results and that the entire match will be completed in one hour makes it fast paced and exciting to watch,” said Pawan Munjal, Managing Director, Hero Honda Motors.
Bhullar undoubtedly will be a hot favourite this week.
“I have never competed in this type of format but it sounds exciting and pressure packed because you have to perform well in each skill to win the match, so I’m really looking forward to this,” Bhullar said.
