Rawalpindi, Oct 11 (Inditop.com) A terrorist arrested from the Pakistani Army headquarters has been identified as the mastermind of the attack on the Sri Lanka cricket team in March, a media report said Sunday.

Muhammad Aqeel alias Dr. Usman, a former Pakistani soldier, was taken into custody after he led an audacious attack on the army headquarters here Saturday that left some 20 people dead.

Geo TV reported that he was also the mastermind of the attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in March that forced the visitors to cut short their trip and head home.

A former sepoy of Army Medical Store, Aqeel and his accomplices fled to Waziristan after the March attack. He is also accused of planning an attack on former president Pervez Musharraf.

Lahore police said Aqeel belonged to Punjabi Tahrik-e-Taliban, which was set up three to four years ago.

Punjab Governor Salman Taseer had said after the attack on the Sri Lankans: “It was a planned terrorist act on the pattern of the attack on Mumbai. I believe the same terrorists are involved in both incidents.”
