Kolkata, Oct 18 (Inditop.com) One person was injured, a car was gutted and a building and a squatters’ colony partly damaged in three fires that broke out in the city on Diwali and Kali Puja night Saturday.
A fire engulfed the terrace of a multi-storied apartment on Vikenanda road in the northern part of the city. Four fire tenders brought the flames under control in about an hour. About 600 square feet area was damaged, police said.
“Tarpaulin sheets, cotton and chemicals needed for house painting were stored on the terrace. It appears that a flying cracker caused the fire,” said an eye-witness.
A car parked on the busy Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy road in north Kolkata was gutted around midnight. Several crackers were seen strewn around the burnt car.
One person was injured while fighting the blaze at the squatters’ colony near Keoratala burning ghat in south Kolkata. He has been admitted to the state-run S.S.K.M. Hospital.
Two fire tenders managed to bring the situation under control after an hour-long battle.
Some of the shanties were destroyed.
“It seems a cracker led to the blaze,” said a fire brigade official at the spot.
