Panaji, Oct 20 (Inditop.com) Yogesh Naik, a member of the Hindu rightwing group Sanatan Sanstha, died here early Tuesday, four days after he was injured when the improvised explosive device (IED) he was ferrying exploded in Goa’s Margao town on Diwali eve.
While Naik died at 5 a.m. at a government hospital, his colleague Malgonda Patil, who was with him at the time, had succumbed to his injuries Friday night.
“He died at 5 a.m. at the Goa Medical College near Panaji. His condition was critical right from the beginning,” a senior police official said. Naik’s lower torso and upper thigh had been nearly blown off due to the impact of the blast.
Naik, who was in his 20s, distributed milk at the Sanatan Sanstha ashram. That’s how he came in touch with Patil, 35, who was a Sangli-based member of the group, police officials said.
Patil and Naik were ferrying the IED on a two wheeler Friday evening when the explosion took place in Margao, 35 km from here. Naik was driving the scooter, while Patil was riding pillion.
Three other IEDs, two of which were found unexploded near the blast site and the other about 30 km away near Vasco, did not go off.
