New Delhi, April 15 (Inditop) A team of doctors from the American College of Surgeons will train 16 doctors from various hospitals in the country in Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS), a statement issued here said Wednesday.

ATLS is the only internationally accepted trauma life support course being taught in over 50 countries. It is being introduced in India for the first time.

The first course of ATLS – ‘India Program’ is being organised at the Apex Trauma Centre, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) from April 16 to April 21.

“The course addresses all the critical fields in which we need to improve and train health professionals. It also lays down protocols to initially manage the critically injured polytrauma patients,” M.C. Misra, chief of the trauma centre said in the statement.

“We have plans to organise many more such workshops to train doctors in trauma care,” Misra said.

A team of doctors from the American College of Surgeons, including Christoph Kaufmann, John Kortbeek, Jameel Ali, Michael Holland and Subhash Gautam have already arrived to initiate the first course.
