Ambala (Haryana), Oct 27 (Inditop.com) There’s love at first sight, of course, and then there’s dislike at first sight too — just ask the hapless groom who was dumped halfway through the wedding ceremony here when his bride said she didn’t like him enough.
Reena Rani and Dharamvir met for the first time Monday but it was a match that was just not to be. They exchanged garlands and were about to go for the ritualistic seven rounds around the sacred fire when she threw up her hands and said she did not want to marry him.
With all the arrangements, guests and food already in place, the bride’s family tried hard to convince her citing social embarrassment. But she was not persuaded.
“I had not seen the boy earlier with whom the match was arranged just one month back. Today, I saw him at the wedding and did not like him at all. It was then that I decided that I don’t want to get married to him,” Reena said.
She added that the boy had never been shown to her before and she would only marry a boy of her choice.
Family members said dowry was not an issue and it was the girl who had spurned the groom.
“We had come with a lot of hopes from this marriage. However, we have been told that we will have to go back,” a disappointed Dharamvir said.
There were angry scenes and police were called.
“We cannot take any action in this matter. There is no dowry case. The girl refuses to marry and no one can force her to do so,” a police officer said.
