Lucknow, Oct 27 (Inditop.com) Two Maoists were arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambhi district with arms and material used for making landmines. The two have told police that Maoists were planning to target railway tracks in several districts of the state.
Harishchandra and Jagli Nishad – both in their early 40s – were nabbed late Monday evening in Ujhaini Khalsa village in Kaushambhi district, some 300 km from Lucknow.
“The two were nabbed while they were returning after participating in a meeting held in the Puramufti area of the district,” police inspector R.R. Singh told Inditop on phone.
“The two have admitted that several Maoist leaders operating in various districts including Mirzapur, Chandauli and Sonbhadra attended the meeting,” he added.
According to police, two guns, several cartridges and wires used in landmines were recovered from the two.
In their statement to police, they said that during the meeting the leftwing guerrillas drew up plans to target railways tracks in several districts.
“We have learnt that a number of Maoists are still hiding in the Puramufti area. We have initiated an operation to nab other rebels,” said Singh.
