New Delhi, Nov 20 (Inditop.com) Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit Friday launched the ‘Time for Change’ campaign against child labour and asked police to proactively take action against offenders.

Speaking at the campaign launch event commemorating International Children’s Day, Dikshit exhorted police and NGOs to take proactive action against child labour.

“There is a need to sensitize police and NGOs including general public,” an official statement quoted her as saying.

Dikshit also unveiled an anti child labour logo. She appealed to manufacturers and employers not to employ children and asked them to put the logo up at their workplace and on products as a symbol of their opposition to child labour.

“General public is also requested to look out for this logo when they buy any product, and make sure that their purchases are not tainted by the labour of children,” she added.

Delhi Labour Minister Mangat Ram Singhal said the place for a child is not at a eatery, tea stall or any such workplace but a school.

“It destroys the very important psychological growth of the child preventing him to become a mature, responsible citizen. Child Labour also speaks ill about a society which does not understand its role and responsibility towards its children,” Delhi Women and Child Development Minister Kiran Walia said.
