Kolkata, Nov 27 (Inditop.com) At least two policemen were injured in a landmine blast triggered by suspected Maoists in West Bengal’s Lalgarh region Friday, an official said.
A police officer said the explosion occurred at Burishol near the Pirakata police outpost under Lalgarh police station of West Midnapore district around 3 p.m. as the security personnel were patrolling the area.
“As the team of policemen neared the spot leading to the forest, the Maoists triggered the blast. There may be more than one explosion, thought it is yet to be confirmed. The number of injured policemen may also rise,” the officer said.
Both the injured cops have been taken to hospital.
The police outpost was set up after the state government began a massive security operation with central paramilitary troopers and state armed forces personnel to flush out Maoists from Lalgarh.
The ultras had virtually crated a free zone in the area since Nov 2008 by torching police camps and burning down offices of the state’s ruling Communist Party of India – Marxist.
