New Delhi, Dec 2 (Inditop.com) The Delhi High Court Wednesday voiced its anger over the Delhi government’s failure to appoint special teachers for disabled children in state-run schools.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar said: “Education is a state subject. Why you (government) need sanction from the central government for the appointment of teachers? You (Delhi government) pay salaries of thousands of teachers, why not a few more?
“Providing education is a statutory obligation of the state and should be dealt carefully. Despite a parliamentary enactment, nothing has been done by the government for disabled children … (it) is (a) very sad affair.”
The court asked the secretary in the education department to take up the matter with the chief secretary and clarify by Dec 16 what steps the government plans to take over the appointment of special teachers.
The court had earlier asked the government to appoint special teachers in each of the 3,000 state-run schools in the capital.
The order is to be implemented in schools run by the Delhi government, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
