New Delhi, Dec 11 (Inditop.com) Congress MPs from the Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions Friday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to raise apprehensions on forming a separate Telangana state.

As many as 20 MPs, including union ministers, led by party leader K.S. Rao met the prime minister at his office in parliament house.

Leaders from the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions are opposed to the break up of Andhra Pradesh.

“The prime minister has assured us that no hasty decision will be taken on this issue. He said the matter will be discussed in the Congress core committee meeting expected later Friday,” Rao told reporters later.

The central government announced late Wednesday that the process had been set in motion for carving out Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh. This came after Telanaga Rashtra Samiti leader K. Chandrasekhara Rao went on a fast unto death to press for a separate Telangana.
