Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh), April 21 (Inditop) Mohammad Azharuddin, former Indian cricket captain and Congress candidate from Moradabad parliamentary seat, Tuesday said he was confident that the people of the Uttar Pradesh region will shower him with love and not treat him as an “outsider”.

“If any Indian goes out of his native place he is not an outsider. For me Hyderabad and Moradabad are equal. I am confident that I will get the same love and affection here also,” Azharuddin told reporters.

He was in Moradabad to file his nomination along with his wife Sangeeta Bijlani, who expressed confidence in him.

“Azhar was the captain of the Indian cricket team for nearly 10 years and always gave his 100 percent. I pray to god to provide him the same efficiency in politics and help him win for the development of the region,” the former actress said.

“Ab Moradabad bhi mera sasural hai, aur aapke prem ki apeksha hai (now Moradabad is also the home of my in laws and we’re waiting for your love and affection),” she added.

While replying to a question, Azharuddin said there was a huge difference between the cricket and political fields.

“The grass is always green in the cricket field, while in politics you also need to travel in barren lands. This constituency lags behind in basic facilities like education and health and I will give my 100 percent for the development of this region,” he said.
