New Delhi, Dec 16 (Inditop.com) India Wednesday said that the commitments by developed countries for assistance to developing countries in adopting green technology and mitigating climate change have been “disappointing”.

“The numbers put on the table so far are disappointing,” Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao told reporters here.

She said the core issue was how to protect sustainable development, poverty alleviation and ensure energy security, which are relevant to developing countries.

She also announced that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will travel to Copenhagen Thursday to attend the Climate Change summit Friday, along with a phalanx of world leaders, including US President Barack Obama and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had acknowledged in Copenhagen that the issue of financing was the key to success at the Dec 7-18 climate summit.

“But this fast start finance is just that, a start,” the UN chief warned. “It won’t solve all our problems. We must address medium and long-term financing needs.”
