New Delhi, Dec 17 (Inditop.com) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Thursday inaugurated a four km storm water tunnel-drain near Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) that would ensure no waterlogging on runways after rains.
Dikshit, who jointly inaugurated the drain with Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, described the project as a challenging one.
A press release issued by the Delhi government said the tunnel-drain will “go a long way in providing an infrastructure of international standard in the airport complex”.
The first phase of the project, which was four kilometre long, cost Rs 110 crore (Rs 1.1 billion). The second phase of seven-kilometre length is expected to be completed by April 2010.
The drain will facilitate disposal of nearly 3000 cusecs of water from the airport and the surrounding areas.
