New Delhi, Dec 21 (Inditop.com) The mercury plummeted to 7.4 degrees Celsius in the national capital Monday, making it the season’s lowest so far. The city also saw shallow fog early morning.

The weather office attributed the drop in temperature to snowfall in upper parts of the country and a cool winds that brought the winter chill to the northern plains.

The minimum of 7.4 degrees Celsius in Delhi was a notch below the normal for this time of the season.

Visibility dropped to 500 meters around 6.30 a.m. as a shallow layer of fog engulfed the capital city. However, no flights were delayed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

“The maximum and minimum temperature is likely to fall further following snowing in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh,” an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official told Inditop.

The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 22 degrees Celsius.
