Lucknow, Jan 2 (Inditop.com) Dense fog led to two train collisions in Uttar Pradesh early Saturday, injuring 11. While 10 people were injured when two trains collided in Kanpur district, the train driver was seriously hurt in an accident in Etawah district, officials said.
The Gorakhdham Express and Prayagraj Express collided near the Panki railway station in Kanpur, some 90 km from here. While 10 people were hurt, some passengers could still be trapped inside three coaches that have been badly damaged, officials said.
The Prayagraj Express was to reach Allahabad from Delhi and the Gorakhdham Express was running between the national capital and Gorakhpur.
In the second accident of the morning, the Lichchavi Express rammed into the stationery Magadh Express near Sarai Bhupat railway station in Etawah, some 300 km from here. Both the trains were headed for Bihar.
“At least 10 people have been injured in the accident that took place in Kanpur. We suspect a few deaths in the accident. However, no causality has been reported in the Etawah accident but the driver of the Lichchavi Express was injured,” R.D. Vajapayee, chief public relations officer (CPRO) of North Central Railway, told reporters.
The train driver had been stuck inside the cabin for hours before being rescued.
“It appears that both the accidents took place due to heavy fog. However, a high-level inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the exact reasons,” said Vajpayee.
Rescue operations are underway at the accident sites.
