Kolkata, Jan 2 (Inditop.com) At least two suspected Maoists were killed and one injured in a gun battle between the police and the ultras in West Bengal’s trouble-torn Lalgarh region Saturday, police said.
“Two people were killed and one injured during a serious encounter between the Maoists and the joint forces,” a police source told Inditop.
The firing took place at Jainagar village near Lalgarh in West Midnapore district.
According to local sources, People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) members also took out rallies at Jainagar and Radhanagar areas protesting the police action in the forest-infested region.
The agitators also called for a police boycott in the district.
“When the joint forces came to take the situation under control, the Maoists rebels opened fire from their hideouts. Subsequently, the central paramilitary troopers also retaliated in which two ultras were killed and one received bullet injuries,” police said.
