Bhopal, Jan 3 (Inditop.com) Normalcy appeared to be returning to Maksi in Shajapur district of Madhya Pradesh after an indefinite curfew was imposed following a clash Friday between two groups over a cricket match, police said Sunday.
“No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in Maksi, about 100 km from here, during the two-hour relaxation in curfew from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. today. We may consider further relaxation in the evening, depending on the situation,” Shajapur District Collector R.K. Sharma told Inditop.
A 22-year-old youth was killed in firing and six others were injured when a dispute over a cricket match turned violent Friday. The administration first imposed prohibitory orders banning assembly of five or more people at a public place and later clamped curfew for an unspecified period in the town.
“The six injured are undergoing treatment at Shajapur district hospital while the last rites of the youth were performed amidst tight security Saturday,” said Ujjain range’s Deputy Inspector General of Police Varun Kapoor.
“A compensation of Rs.1 lakh has been sanctioned for the family of the deceased youth while cases have been registered against warring parties on the basis of complaints filed by them,” Sharma said.
Around 25 people have been taken into custody, police said.
