Chennai, Jan 7 (Inditop.com) City-based power gear maker BGR Energy Systems Ltd Thursday said it has entered into an agreement with American firm Nooter/Eriksen for manufacturing heat recovery steam generators (HRSG).
The equipment is used in gas fired combined cycle power plants to recover the heat energy to produce steam and then convert it to power in the steam turbine.
“As per the deal, Nooter/Eriksen will provide the know-how to manufacture HRSG. We will invest Rs.40 crore in our existing facility near Chennai to make the products,” B.G.Raghupathy, chairman and managing director of BGR Energy Systems Ltd, told reporters here.
According to him, the company’s own contribution while executing combine cycle power plants will go up to the tune of Rs.200 crore.
“With gas finds increasing in the country – KG Basin in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan – gas-based power plants will increase. We will be participating in the tenders for such projects,” he said.
In India, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd and Larsen and Toubro are the major players in this field.
“We have not been active in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh where the market is growing. With this tie-up, we will be able to mark our presence in these markets,” said Donald H Lange, Nooter/Eriksen president.
He said that with $600 million turnover, Nooter/Eriksen commands 19 percent share in the global HRSG market.
