New Delhi, Jan 22 (Inditop.com) Key sectors of the economy grew 6 percent in December against 5.3 percent the previous month, and 4.8 percent during April-December 2009, official data released Friday said.

The six core industries grew 0.7 percent in December 2008, and 3.2 percent during April-December 2009.

According to data the commerce and industry ministry released Friday, electricity production increased 11 percent in December 2009, crude oil 1.1 percent, petroleum refinery products 0.9 percent, coal 2.5 percent, cement 11 percent and finished carbon steel 9.6 percent.

The six sectors have a weight of 26.7 percent in the index of industrial production (IIP) that measures country’s factory output.

During April-December 2009, crude oil production declined 1.1 percent while petroleum refinery production was down 1 percent.

Coal grew 8.3 percent, electricity 6 percent, cement 11 percent and finished carbon steel by 3.6 percent.
