New Delhi, Jan 24 (Inditop.com) In a new step to introduce greater transparency, the information and broadcasting ministry has created a satellite tracking system that will enable promoters to get an online update on their applications for new channels.
This new system would allow the applicants for channels in India to get the status of their application online for the first time, sources in the ministry said here.
The software has been developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
The applicants can check the link for this new application tracking system on the website of the ministry and have the authority to login in the system with the help of the Unique Company Identification Number (CIN) and a password.
The ministry has put a temporary freeze on new applications for uplinking/downlinking of a television channel in India till it gets recommendations from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) over the available spectrum.
Under the policy guidelines for uplinking and downlinking of private TV notified in 2005, the ministry has so far permitted 516 private channels. At least 100 more channels are said to be in the pipeline.
