Tokyo, Jan 28 (DPA) Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc said it would repair an additional 1.09 million vehicles to reduce the risk of accelerator pedals getting stuck under loose floor mats.
The move is to expand the Japanese carmaker’s already largest-ever US recall from November to 5.35 million vehicles, which could erode Toyota’s reputation for quality.
The additional models subject to the recall are 2008-10 Highlanders, 2009-10 Corollas, 2009-10 Venzas, 2009-10 Matrixes, and 2009-10 Pontiac Vibes – a compact car which Toyota produced with General Motors Corp, the US sales arm of Toyota Motor Corp said Wednesday.
The expansion came a day after the world’s largest carmaker said it would halt the sales of eight models in the US, including its popular Camry and Corolla models, involved in a separate US recall of about 2.3 million vehicles to repair potentially defective gas pedals.
