Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 3 (Inditop.com) The ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) is irked after Kerala Governor R.S. Gavai sought clarifications from the V.S. Achuthanandan government over the appointment of a new state Public Service Commission (PSC) member.
On Jan 13 this year, the state cabinet cleared the name of K.A. Manuel to be appointed as a PSC member and the Congress-led opposition opposed this because the person while working as an audit officer at the Accountant General’s office here was dismissed from service on disciplinary grounds.
While the Congress party raked this issue, the Achuthanandan government cleared the proposal and forwarded it to the governor for his ratification for appointment.
It is on this proposal that the governor has now sought to know from the government if there is any case pending against Manuel and if there has been any precedent like this.
The PSC is the body that looks after the recruitment procedure to government departments and educational institutions in the state.
Gavai last June came under fire from a few state ministers after he gave nod to the Central Bureau of Investigation to prosecute CPI-M state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan in the Rs.374 crore SNC Lavalin corruption case where he was named as the seventh accused.
