Jammu, Feb 10 (Inditop.com) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had a narrow escape as the engine of his car caught fire when he was returning from a marriage ceremony, his close aide said Wednesday.

Abdullah’s car caught fire Tuesday night on the Jammu-Pathankote highway but he and his driver managed to get out of the vehicle before any harm could come to them, said Devendra Rana, Abdullah’s personal secretary.

Abdullah was returning from the wedding of Congress MP Lal Singh’s daughter at Kathua when his official car caught fire around 10 p.m. Tuesday near Ghagwal, about 50 km from here.

The car was filled with smoke and the engine could not be switched off even when the ignition was turned off, an official said.

He was later shifted to another car in his cavalcade.

An inquiry has been ordered into the incident, the official said.

Rana said the chief minister was “fine”. “He addressed a press conference and attended a board meeting. Nothing to worry about.”
