Ahmedabad, April 24 (Inditop) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi should become prime minister in future – after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran L.K. Advani, party leader Arun Shourie said here Friday.
“In my personal opinion, the next prime minister should also be elected from Gujarat after L.K. Advani becomes the prime minister after the current Lok Sabha polls,” Shourie told a news conference here.
He said Modi should be the next prime minister considering the fact that Gujarat has made rapid development under his leadership and the other states today talk development based on the ‘Gujarat model’ of attracting investment.
Referring to the current economic uncertainties, the former disinvestment minister said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had been raising the bogey of recession in India to cover up its own mismanagement of economic affairs.
The scale of economic mismanagement witnessed in India during the past five years had never been witnessed before in the country, he said.
“During the UPA regime, 25 lakh jobs were lost in the textile sector alone. Despite so much of the gas discovery being reported during the UPA rule, there is still a quota system existing for the LPG (cooking gas) in the domestic segment,” Shourie said.
On the issues of national security, he said that the UPA government’s National Security Advisor (NSA) M.K. Narayanan himself had said terrorist money was flowing into the country’s stock markets.
“Across the border in Pakistan, the Taliban is just 100 km away from Islamabad and here in India we have a government which does not read the ominous signals due to its vote bank politics”, he added.
The Chinese influence is growing in Nepal after the Maoists assumed power in the neighbouring country, he said.
The fact remains that the Chinese have advanced to the southern slopes of the Himalayas for the first time which shows the scale of Chinese influence in Nepal, he added.
