Islamabad, Feb 18 (Inditop.com) A week before foreign secretaries of the two countries meet, Pakistan reiterated Thursday that it wanted the composite dialogue with India, stalled by the Mumbai terror attack, to resume.
But the signals emanating from India were not encouraging, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said while talking to Richard Holbrooke, the US special envoy for the Af-Pak region here.
Relations between India and Pakistan, Online news agency quoted Gilani as saying, should not become hostage to the activities of terrorists who were the common enemy of both countries.
For lasting peace in the region, the prime minister said both countries needed to address core issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and their water row.
Ever since India invited Pakistan for foreign secretary-level talks, Islamabad has insisted on resuming the composite dialogue that got suspended after the 26/11 Mumbai carnage that New Delhi has blamed on Pakistani terrorists.
India has said the composite dialogue can begin only after Pakistan takes concrete action against the perpetrators of the Mumbai mayhem that left 166 Indians and foreigners said.
The Indian and Pakistani foreign secretaries will meet in New Delhi Feb 25. India has said it will focus on countering terror, but other issues of mutual concern will also be discussed.
