Patiala (Punjab), Feb 21 (Inditop.com) Two men were arrested Sunday from this Punjab town for possessing explosives and weapons, police said.

Both the arrested men belonged to the Khalistan Liberation Front (KLF), a terrorist organisation that was active in the state during years of Sikh militancy from 1982 to 1995, a police official told Inditop.

The police recovered nearly eight kg of explosives and 40 gelatin sticks from their possession. Two pistols and some ammunition were also recovered from them, the official said.

“They were planning for a major strike in the state. Further investigations are on,” a police official said in Patiala, about 70 km from state capital Chandigarh.

The Punjab police have in the last two months recovered explosives from two places in Patiala district.

Explosive material was recovered outside an Indian Oil Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) refilling plant near Nabha town, 25 km from here, last month.

Just five days later, two grenades were found by the police on a road leading to an Indian Air Force (IAF) station at Zirakpur, 20 km from Chandigarh.
