New Delhi, Feb 22 (Inditop.com) President Pratibha Patil’s speech in parliament Monday was described as a “routine affair” by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) criticised it for not including “course correction” on issues like inflation.

The president’s speech was devoid of ground reality, said senior BJP leader and former finance minister Yashwant Sinha.

“There is not a single word about price rise. I think it was a very routine affair. It lacks direction,” the Lok Sabha MP told IANS after Patil’s speech to a joint session of parliament on the opening day of the budget session.

Had the president’s speech mentioned how the issue of price rise would be tackled, it would have given direction to MPs when the matter came up in parliament for discussion, he said.

CPI-M politburo member Brinda Karat added: “The attitude is business as usual.”

It is “unfortunate” that there was no mention on “course correction” on important issues like inflation, Karat told IANS.
