New Delhi, Feb 24 (Inditop.com) The upgraded Talkatora Indoor Stadium, one of the venues for the Commonwealth Games, was inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Wednesday. A sports facility block was also inaugurated.

The stadium, which will host the Commonwealth boxing championship March 10, has been upgraded with state-of-the-art facilities like an acoustic ceiling, score boards, video screens, sports lighting and CCTV cameras and has a seating capacity for 2,700 people.

With this stadium, the belief has been strengthened that the ensuing Commonwealth Games would be a grand success, Dikshit said and expressed her confidence that the games would pave the way for hosting other international sports events.

According to Dikshit, the sports facility block has been constructed with recyclable construction material and fly ash bricks. Heat reflective glass has been used for the fa�ade and rain water harvesting provision has also been included in this green building.

During the Commonwealth Games the ground floor of the sports facility block will have athlete cubicles, a medical office and a physiotherapy centre, warm up area and an athlete’s lounge. The first floor will have a doping control office, federation office, technical official lounge, committee office, meeting room and changing room.

The press conference room, media lounge, venue managers office, security command with CCTV monitor room, ticket desk and media work area are on the second floor. The third and fourth floors also have a catering area.

After the games, the complex will be used for socio-cultural and official purposes.
