Chennai, Feb 27 (Inditop.com) A day after appreciating the union budget, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi Saturday requested the central government to revoke the basic duty reimposed on diesel and increased central excise on diesel, which have pushed up its price.

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Karunanidhi said inflation is pinching the common man and the increased petrol and diesel prices are an additional burden on the people.

Reiterating his appreciation of the 2010-11 budget presented by Mukherjee Friday as “growth oriented” Karunanidhi, however, said the increase in diesel prices will result in further increase in prices of food items.

Diesel and petrol prices turned dearer by around Rs.3 per litre Saturday.
