New Delhi, March 29 (Inditop.com) No decision has been taken on a brand ambassador for the Commonwealth Games as yet, an official said after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader V.K. Malhotra suggested that Amitabh Bachchan be given the task.
Commonwealth Games organising committee secretary general Lalit Bhanot told Inditop: “We have not yet given a thought to the matter and not finalised anything. A decision will be taken after the committee takes up the issue (of a brand ambassador).”
Malhotra, in a letter to Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi, Saturday said that given the Bollywood superstar’s credentials and star status, he would be the best choice for being made brand ambassador of the international sporting event being held in New Delhi in October.
Malhotra is also the Indian Olympic Association senior vice-president and the executive board member of the Games organising committee.
The BJP leader’s suggestion came close on the heels of a controversy surrounding Bachchan attending the inauguration last week of the Bandra-Worli sea link’s extension in Mumbai. A section of Congress workers had protested his presence at the function.
