Bhopal, March 29 (Inditop.com) Raids conducted at a revenue officer’s home in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh have yielded assets worth over Rs.50 lakh, disproportionate to his known source of income, officials said Monday.
A 20-member team led by Superintendent of Police (Lokayukta) Avinash Sharma reached 37-year-old Mahesh Depan’s ancestral home Sunday in Sorang village, about 15 km from Ujjain.
Sharma said that the officer was found to have a house worth Rs.18 lakh, a 12-wheel truck costing Rs.12 lakh in his wife’s name, land in his mother’s name, a tractor and a car.
Police stopped their search operation after Depan’s mother Shanta bai, 65, suffered a heart attack.
Depan blamed the police for the heart attack. “She got frightened as the police kept saying that I would be arrested,” he said.
