Jammu, March 31 (Inditop.com) Four terrorists and two soldiers were killed in a gun battle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district Wednesday, an army official said.
“Four militants and two soldiers were killed. The gunfight took long to finish as there was darkness and deep forest at the encounter site,” Brigadier General Staff of 16 corps Brig. Gurdeep Singh told Inditop.
He said the 18-hour long gun battle in the forests of Rajouri, about 200 km north-west of Jammu, started in Kandi area Tuesday evening.
“In the initial assault by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir police, three militants were killed. One soldier Sepoy Ram Prasad of 48 Rashtriya Rifles (a counter insurgency force of the Indian Army) was hit by bullets in his chest. He died on the spot,” Singh said.
The gun battle is being attributed to fresh infiltration from across the Line of Control.
Addressing the reporters Monday, Singh said there were 25,000 militants waiting to intrude into the Indian side of the LoC from Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
