New Delhi, April 3 (Inditop.com) Union Minister for Urban Development S. Jaipal Reddy Saturday expressed optimism that India will perform well as the host of 2010 Commonwealth Games and in turn will improve the country’s global image.

“Organising the Games is a great national task and I am sure we will deliver the best,” Reddy said during a visit to the headquarters of the organising committee here.

Delhi will host the Games Oct 3-14.

The minister is the head of the group of ministers overseeing the co-ordination and development work for the event.

Reddy added that it was important for India to make the most of the awareness created for the Commonwealth Games and gather support for the Olympics.

“We did not follow up the 1982 Asian Games very well and we must do it now,” he stressed.

Assuring the committee’s chairperson Suresh Kalmadi of the government’s support to preparations Reddy said: “I am sure you will deliver the best Commonwealth Games ever in history…Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is totally committed to the conduct of the Games.”
