Islamabad, April 5 (Inditop.com) Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Monday condemned the serial blasts in Peshawar that targeted the US consulate, saying that the government would not be deterred by such acts of violence and would fight the terrorists till their complete elimination.

Expressing his deep sorrow and grief over the loss of lives, Zardari expressed his solidarity with the families of the injured. In his message, Zardari also directed the best possible treatment for the injured.

At least three powerful blasts rocked Peshawar Monday, but there was no immediate word on casualties.

One resident said up to five blasts took place in a span of 20 minutes near the US consulate on Hayat Avenue in an area also housing many residences and other buildings.

Thick smoke billowed from the blast site, and journalists reported hearing gunshots soon after. A fire broke out.

One witness said it appeared to be a suicide attack. The US consulate as well as the American embassy in Islamabad gave no details.
