Raipur, April 6 (Inditop.com) Several troopers were killed Tuesday when Maoist guerrillas ambushed a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) team in a thickly forested area of Chhattisgarh’s violence-hit Bastar region, police said.

The attack took place in Chintalnar hamlet of Dantewada district, some 450 km south of capital Raipur.

Dantewada District Superintendent of Police Amresh Mishra confirmed the attack and said he was rushing to the site to collect details about casualties, if any.

However, another police officer told IANS that at least three CRPF troopers were killed and several injured as rebels blew up a vehicle in which they were travelling. The guerrillas later opened indiscriminate fire.

The officer said the casualty figure was likely to go up. “A chopper has been sent from Jagdalpur town to airlift the injured cops.”

Jagdalpur is the headquarters of Bastar district.
