Raipur, April 6 (Inditop.com) At least three troopers were killed and five injured Tuesday when Maoist guerrillas ambushed a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bunker in a thickly forested area of Chhattisgarh’s violence-hit Bastar region, police said.
The attack, in which the guerrillas first bombed the bunker and then opened fire, took place at Chintalnar hamlet of Dantewada district, about 450 km from here.
“Maoists attacked a CRPF team and ambushed a bunker… At least three CRPF men were killed and five injured. The killed were a sub-inspector, a constable and a vehicle driver,” Dantewada District Superintendent of Police Amresh Mishra told Inditop.
A chopper has been sent from Jagdalpur, headquarters of Bastar district, to move the injured troopers to hospital. A strong contingent of state police force has also been rushed to the site.
“It seems to be a meticulously planned attack. The guerrillas first blew up the CRPF bunker and then opened indiscriminate fire,” Bastar Inspector General of Police T.J. Longkumer said.
Chhattisgarh’s mineral rich Bastar region spread out in about 40,000 sq km is made up of five districts – Bijapur, Kanker, Narayanpur, Bastar and Dantewada.
