Srinagar, April 6 (Inditop.com) The state police Tuesday will present a chargesheet in a local court against a suspended commandant of the paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) and a trooper in the alleged murder of a 16-year-old youth here Feb 5.

BSF commandant of the 68th battalion R.K. Birdi and trooper Lakhwinder Kumar were suspended by BSF authorities after a preliminary internal enquiry had established their involvement in the killing of Class 10 student Zahid Farooq Sheikh in Srinagar’s Nishat area.

The youth’s killing had sparked widespread public outrage following which the state government promised to bring the guilty to book.

State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had also spoken to union Home Minister P. Chidambaram in this regard.

Both the BSF personnel were handed over to the local police for interrogation after their arrest.

“The accused R.K. Birdi and Lakhwinder Kumar have been charged under sections 302 (murder), 109 (abetment) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the penal code,” a police officer told IANS here.
