New Delhi, April 8 (Inditop.com) A 62-year-old man on a morning walk was killed when he was hit by a speeding BMW car near Akshardham temple in east Delhi. Eyewitnesses claimed that there was delay of over three hours by the police in taking the victim to hospital.

Om Dutt Chauhan, a resident of east Delhi, was hit by the car at about 6.30 a.m.

Local residents, who witnessed the accident, vented their anger on policemen when they allegedly delayed taking the victim to hospital. The crowd blocked the traffic for over a couple of hours.

An eyewitness said: “The victim was in pain for three hours but there was no initiative by the cops to take him to a hospital.”

Another eyewitness added: “Police took the three BMW occupants to police station first and then took the deceased to hospital. Had they taken the victim to the hospital first, he would have survived.”

A police official, however, denied the allegation.

He said: “The victim was taking a walk near the Akshardham Chowk at around 6.30 a.m. A car, which was trying to overtake a motorcycle, ran over him. We rushed to the spot immediately and took the victim to the hospital.”
