Chandigarh, April 8 (Inditop.com) Punjab and Haryana have procured nearly 800,000 tonnes of wheat in the first eight days of the procurement season that started April 1.

Haryana alone has procured over 700,000 tonnes of wheat.

In Punjab, the procurement is slowly reaching the 100,000 mark.

A Haryana food and supplies department spokesman said Thursday that most of the wheat was procured by the five state government agencies and the Food Corporation of India.

Private traders have procured about 25 tonnes.

Wheat arrivals in Punjab are expected to increase sharply after the harvest festival of ‘Baisakhi’ (April 13-14).
