Melbourne, April 14 (Inditop.com) Energy saving and environmentalism may be phrases in regular use these days, but Australia’s Melbourne city has shown how to go about it through simple methods.
More than 1,000 environmental and energy-efficient products were on display at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre here that attracted thousands of visitors last week, Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday.
Energy-saving, cutting-edge building styles, interior designs and exterior furniture truly showed that Melbourne was a pioneer of energy-saving and environmentalism Down Under.
Among the exhibits was a blanket, where one could put food on to and heat it over a barbecue stove, without the food in direct contact with either the stove or fire. Experts said it not only guarantees food hygiene but is also an easier way to keep the stove clean.
Lightweight materials used to make retractable stairs attracted many people, while a state-of-the-art coffee machine showed that it does not need to be power consuming to produce a tasty cup of one’s favourite drink.
Researchers present at the show said the bathroom was the “most expensive source of water bills”. They exhibited the difference between a traditional and a water-saving shower-head which saves up to 70 percent of water.
A new design of a solar-powered light with a unique ability to block the heat of the sun, so that the indoor temperature does not rise when the device is in use, was also among the crowd-pullers.
“Fancy decorations and rebellious living style are no longer called ‘trendy’ by young Australians, but energy-saving and environmentalism are,” a visitor was quoted as saying.
“Many Australian households feel proud to be using technologies that helped save energy and the environment,” he said.
Melbourne is one of the pioneer cities that promotes the use of green technologies.
New apartments in the city have a device that not only records water and electricity usage but which also converts them to the bill amount. As a result, people develop the habit of saving both money and energy.
