Agartala, April 18 (Inditop.com) Two Indian youths from Tripura, arrested for illegally entering Bangladesh in November last year, have been missing for nearly four months now, officials said here Sunday.
“The two youths from southern Tripura — Sanjoy Bhowmik, 20 and Pintu Debnath, 21 — were arrested in Bangladesh by the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) for illegal entry into that country in November last year. They were produced before a court in Feni that sent them to jail for a month,” a Tripura government official told reporters.
“After a month, the Bangladesh court asked the BDR to send the youths back to India, but the youths have not returned so far and their families have not got any information about them,” the official said.
BDR officials told the Border Security Force (BSF) that the youths could not be traced, he added.
The Tripura government has apprised the central government and the Ministry of External Affairs has taken up the matter with the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, the official said.
The youths’ brothers in Tripura appealed to the central and state governments to trace the two at the earliest as their parents had taken ill due to anxiety.
According to family sources, the two youths went to Bangladesh in search of jobs.
